Antique glass and mirrors are created through a process design to age them. In fact what the processes do is create minor damage to the glass (or mirrors) to create this effect. When this is done for mirrors the process involves dropping acid onto the glass mirror to create black dots and spots. For glass the process is different. Instead of using acid on the glass, the glass is run at a very high temperature through rollers which causes the glass to become slightly pitted and to lose clarity over time. One thing to keep in mind is that we recommend only using aged glass and mirrors in applications where sturdiness of the glass is not a factor. For instance the glass is very thin and it has very minor surface damage. It looks great in cabinet doors, but using it for anything that bears weight (Such as shelves) would be hazardous. The cool part is we can create your glass and mirrors so that you can create something totally custom and unique. |
